Guest Speakers

NCBA’s New Efforts on the Hill and with the BCFP

Chip Stacy and Yale Levy will provide a comprehensive update on the NCBA’s efforts to reform the FDCPA and develop favorable changes to the CFPB’s proposed debt collection rules. With the rules expected to be released in the Spring of 2019, Chip and Yale will provide their insight on the major rules they expect the BCFP to release and the impact of these rules on the industry. At the time of this session, the mid-term elections will have just been completed, so Chip and Yale will provide a gauge as to the future likelihood of a legislative change to the FDCPA.

The Importance of a General Counsel

Attorney’s need attorneys too! Why wait until you get sued to engage with counsel?  Making the investment and having an outside General Counsel (GC) on retainer is an important investment for any law firm. A strong relationship with your outside GC can help prevent issues before they become significant problems as well as speed up the resolution of many issues. In this session, Isaac Goldman will interview Joann Needleman, a Partner and Leader of Clark Hill’s Regulatory & Compliance Practice Group, about the importance and value of retaining a GC in order to make the transition from working in your business to working on your business.

Where the BCFP is Today

In this session, K Gandhi Eswaramoorthy, will give an overview of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection (BCFP) goals, and its activities related to debt collections industry.  The presentation will cover topics as the BCFP’s Vision of the Debt Collection Market, Levels of Consumer Debt and Delinquency Rates, emerging themes in debt collections industry, and an update on debt collections rule making.
